Licensing
Source available.
Home-user focused.
The planned Community Preview model keeps the source inspectable while reserving commercial use for separate permission.
Planned community licence
Built for home and other permitted non-commercial use.
The HomesteadWatch Community Preview is intended to be released under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. The final downloadable release and source publication will include the exact licence terms that apply.
What “source-available” means here
The plan is to make HomesteadWatch source code available so users can inspect how the software works, review its privacy and security behaviour, learn from it, and exercise the rights granted by the applicable licence.
PolyForm Noncommercial restricts use to permitted non-commercial purposes.
Commercial use
Commercial use is not intended to be granted by the community licence. Businesses, commercial installers, hosted-service providers, OEMs, or others seeking commercial rights should contact the project separately.
Commercial licensing terms have not yet been published. An enquiry can be sent to homesteadwatch@proton.me.
Voluntary support does not change the licence
A voluntary support or donation option may be introduced when the Community Preview launches. A contribution will not by itself purchase a commercial licence, paid support, warranty, priority treatment, or additional software or branding rights.
Third-party software
HomesteadWatch uses and works alongside third-party software with its own licences. Those third-party terms remain separate from the HomesteadWatch project licence. The public release will include the notices required for the exact components that are distributed.
Components such as FFmpeg, go2rtc, Caddy, Tailscale, Headscale, and ntfy are intended to remain separately installed prerequisites unless a later release explicitly says otherwise.
Current pre-release status
HomesteadWatch has not yet been publicly released under PolyForm. This page records the intended licensing direction for the Community Preview; it does not replace the exact licence text that will accompany the release.
