The Community Preview is self-service software for technically confident home users and self-hosters.
Who is the Community Preview for?
HomesteadWatch is aimed at users who are comfortable with Linux, networking, RTSP cameras, and command-line tools. The documentation will make the tested setup as approachable as practical, but this is not a plug-and-play consumer appliance.
Community Preview support model
The Community Preview is primarily supported through documentation for the tested reference setup. Different cameras, networks, operating systems, and storage layouts may require adaptation and troubleshooting.
Individual remote administration, guaranteed one-to-one setup help, and a support SLA are not included with the free Community Preview.
Before making changes to your system
Self-hosted installation can change networking, storage, services, firewall rules, camera settings, and the host operating system. Review commands and paths before applying them to your own environment.
Documentation first
Documentation will cover installation, camera setup, optional recording, secure remote access, notifications, backup, updates, recovery, and troubleshooting for the tested reference installation.
What feedback is useful?
- Reproducible bugs and clear error messages.
- Camera model and RTSP compatibility reports.
- Installation steps that were confusing or incomplete.
- Accessibility problems.
- Useful home-camera workflows or feature suggestions.
Security reports
Suspected vulnerabilities should be reported privately using the guidance on the Security page rather than posted publicly first.
